Intro:

I met Chad about a year ago, well actually let me rephrase that, I talked to him on the phone for the first time about a year ago. For those of you who aren't quite up to speed, Chad is the guy behind shook interactive, A BMX video magazine done quarterly focusing on the less well known riders in the country, hence the phrase "broadcasting the underground over ground." After I gave him some clips of Davy Watson and Mike Hoder we have kind of kept in contact since. Here's a interview with him.

enjoy.

Where are you from, what's your name, how old are you?
The names Chad Shack, from cleveland, im 21.
How long have you been doing the video stuff?
Bout 3-4 yrs.
Did BMX get you into it, or did you begin with interests in other subjects?
Yea.
Shook is becoming more and more familiar. It seems like last year I never heard about it, and now I hear about it on a day to day basis. What inspired you to start it?
Well not many people know that I did Shine before Shook, it was another video magazine type deal. That shit fell through, so I switched the name reworked the mission, and kept it movin.
Have you made anything outside of the BMX world, music videos, shorts, ad's, weddings, etc?
Not really, I made a halloween commercial for a haunted hayride. Im definitley not opposed to doin things outside of BMX. Id like to get into music video production as well a major film production.
> Would you rather go on a trip for two weeks, film the whole time, and put together a video from that. Or film with one person for a few months and try to get a perfected part?
both. I've never got a chance to put together a team video. Its always been something I wanted to do. Either way, I enjoy filming and watching the thing come together.
There's some pretty wild openings in your videos, Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Animated shows, commercials, movies, my buddy Dave. There aren't too many people utilizing our technological capabilities in the industry, so Im trying to get on top of that tip.
Who else does shook with you, who does what?

Well, I do most of the work myself. My buddy Dave Jacobs, steps in to help with animation at times. I have some solid contributing filmers and a web guy. Everyone is down for the cause, which really makes me wanna keep em around till I can hook it up.
There's a pretty unique strategy behind shook "broadcasting the underground over-ground" getting kids from all over the country to film parts and get them to you for a deadline. Have you run into any horror stories?
Not really, If someone's not going to be ready, then we just push it back to the next issue.
There's some pretty amazing talent out there, where do you find all of these kids to do parts for your videos?
Spend mad time on the internet. People stay recommending people for parts.
What kind of equipment do you use, what would you like to use?
Vx 2000, dual 2gb G5 with 4 gigs of ram.
Do you have any big plans for shook in the future?
Just to keep steppin it up. I do have some solo releases comin out under the anamorphosis label (Shook's parent company) Im doing the Red Bull Backyard Buildoff video now. Im also producing the debut Cincinnati video entitled "From Nothing."
Thanks for your time, do you have anything to say?
Shook is not competing with props or any other video entity. Im doin my thing and havin fun with it. So stop all the Shook vs. props forums and shit, its wack.

Chad Doing his thing.
